BIKIN GUA CUAK!!

<I HEART MALAYSIA>

Kadang-kadang lagi murah taw~

Initial tests reveal 'fake eggs' are real

2011/04/11

KUANTAN: The preliminary analysis conducted by the Health Ministry shows that the so-called fake eggs taken from three stalls in Penang recently are real ones.
However, minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said he had ordered a DNA test to be carried out on the eggs and the results were expected to be announced today. He said the preliminary test revealed that the eggs' protein content, yolk and shell calcium were similar to those in genuine eggs.

However, to confirm it, he said the Chemistry Department would carry out the DNA test.

"I was informed on Friday that the contents found in the fake eggs were the same as the genuine ones.

"Since this is a public interest case, we hope the results of the second test will reassure the public," he told reporters after the launch of the national-level World Health Day 2011 celebrations here yesterday.

Liow said the ministry decided to carry out the second test on the "fake egg" samples obtained from three stalls in Pulau Tikus, to allay the public's fear.

"There was a similar case reported in 2007, but the 'fake eggs' were later found to be genuine," he said.

It was reported yesterday that fake eggs did not exist after a sample analysed by the Penang Veterinary Department's laboratory in Bukit Tengah found them to be genuine. However, the department was unable to announce the results as it was waiting for the results of test samples sent to the Chemistry Department in Petaling Jaya.

The Consumers Association of Penang held a press conference on Wednesday complaining that fake eggs were sold at three stalls in Pulau Tikus before the state Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism division's enforcement team raided the premises and seized 270 eggs.

On the Adenovirus breakout at the Army Basic Training Centre (Pusasda) in Port Dickson, Liow said it was under control and only five trainees were still seeking treatment in hospitals. Three of them were warded at Port Dickson Hospital while the other two were at Seremban Hospital.

Liow said 136 trainees were quarantined at the camp to ensure the virus did not affect others, and they were all in stable condition.
